SBS Take delivery of 100th vehicle - Dave Ibbotson Profile

In August 2004, Sheffield removals and storage company - SBS celebrated their 21st Birthday with a party and firework display at their new Sheffield premises. Now barely eight months later, The company has reached another milestone with the arrival of its 100th fleet vehicle.

Vehicle 100 - a Volvo FH12 tractor unit, will be driven by one of the company's first employees Dave Ibbotson, who has been part of SBS since its inception all those years ago.

Dave Ibbotson or "Ibbo" as he is known throughout the firm has been a feature of SBS since its launch. Best friend of Jonathan, he was the ideal person to call upon when Jonathan needed someone to help him in his new venture.

Moving on from removals, Ibbo took his Class 1 drivers licence and began driving HGVs for SBS. Undertaking a variety of duties he has now become 'trainee mechanical engineer' which sees him becoming responsible for monitoring the servicing and maintenance of the entire fleet.

Away from SBS his passion is motorbikes, race bikes in particular… a passion that has been assisted by SBS through kind sponsorship and help with transportation.

Ibbo has been riding offroad since the age of 14 and began competitive racing in 1988 with his first race being at Mallory Park, and in 1989 won the Singles Championship.

He is member of the following race clubs: New Era, Derby Phoenix, Darley Moor, and EMRA. And trophies include:

1 Club Championship Retford & District Champion 1989 (Honda)

Gratham Pegasus (Spondon Rotax)

Forgotten Era (Pre 1987 bikes) 1991 (Spondon Rotax)

Following a accident in 1992 the bikes were given up for a few years, until the bug returned and Ibbo tried his hand at 4 Stroke Motocross in 1997 racing for the SBS Motocross team riding CCMs and Husabergs. Followingon from this he went onto Supermoto which is Motocross on a race track.

After a few years off there was a return to his first love of racing and Ibbo is back doing what he does best, gaining 4th place in the 2004 Derby Phoenix 250 championship.

So after driving HGV Lorries all day itisthe bike that becomes king and the thrill of the racetrack."I enjoy my work immensely and feel proud to have been given the honour of driving vehicle 100" explains Ibbo"I have come a long way with the company, and its seems hard to believethat we have celebrated our 21st birthday… when its seems only yesterday that we were starting off" he added.
